Cyclones Overpower Komets on Halloween

October 31, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Fort Wayne, IN-The Cincinnati Cyclones (3-1-0-0) collected a 5-1 win over the Fort Wayne Komets on Saturday night. Forward Eric Robinson had a pair of goals, while forwards Jack Downing and Zach Budish, and defenseman MikeRatchuk each chipped in lone tallies.

The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net, as just 1:58 into the contest, Downing picked off a pass in the offensive zone and wristed it past Fort Wayne netminder Pat Nagle, giving Cincinnati a 1-0 lead.

That lead became 2-0 roughly six minutes later, when a scramble on the side of the Fort Wayne net resulted in Budish slipping the loose puck past Nagle, for his first of the season.

After the Komets got on the board with a power play tally from forward Garrett Meurs, Cincinnati extended their lead back to two goals, when forward Joe Pendenza sent a pass from below the goal line out to Robinson who was charging the net, and popped it past Nagle, giving the Cyclones a 3-1 lead through 20 minutes.

Cincinnati continued their forward motion in the second while on the power play, when forward Peter Quenneville sent a pass to Robinson in the slot, and he snapped it past Nagle, extending Cincinnati's edge to 4-1, 6:16 into the second.

The power play produced again about 11 minutes later, when Ratchuk took a pass at the line from Downing, and blasted a slapshot over Nagle's glove, lifting Cincinnati to a 5-1 lead after two periods.

That is all the offense the Cyclones needed, as netminder Brad Thiessen stopped 36-of-the-37 shots he faced to earn his third win of the season. Cincinnati was outshot, 37-20, on the night, while the power play converted on two-of-three chances.

Cincinnati returns home on Wednesday night for a meeting with the Toledo Walleye. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30pm at U.S. Bank Arena.
