Evansville IceMen News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - Three unanswered third period goals sprung the Evansville IceMen to their first win of the season Saturday, a 3-2 road victory over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

The Swamp Rabbits jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead when Brian Hart and Jack Combs scored 3:34 apart in the middle part of the frame. Hart crashed the net and knocked a loose puck off the chest of a sprawled out Scott Greenham and in for his third goal of the season. Then Combs broke free in the slot and lifted a shot under the crossbar while falling down in front of the net. Greenville outshot the IceMen 17-8 in the period.

Neither team scored in the second period, as Greenham and Swamp Rabbits goalie Adam Morrison were called upon to make double-digit saves. Evansville outshot Greenville 14-12, but trailed by two goals for the second straight game going into the third.

Evansville's comeback effort started 3:31 into the third, when rookie Vincent Dunn banked a centering pass off a Greenville defenseman's skate and in for his first career goal. Matthew Zay tied the game at 5:53 with his first career goal to cap off a tic-tac-toe passing play started by Spencer Humphries and set-up by Justin MacDonald.

The IceMen completed the third period comeback with 3:20 to play in regulation, when Ryan Penny scored his first professional goal, which would turn out to be the game-winner. After Daultan Leveille gained zone-entry and handed the puck off to Jarret Lukin, Lukin slid a backhanded pass through the slot to Penny, who made a forehand-to-backhand move to beat Morrison.

Greenham made a season-high 42 saves for his first win of the season. Morrison stopped 35 in his first loss.

Evansville next travels to Charleston, SC for a Sunday afternoon game against the South Carolina Stingrays at 3pm EDT. It will be the only meeting between the two teams this season. Coverage starts at 2:45pm EDT on www.evansvilleicemen.com and ECHL TV.
