Rush Beat Aces in Halloween Matinee

RAPID CITY, SD - Dan O'Donoghue scored two goals and Danny Battachio made 32 saves to lead the Rapid City Rush to a 5-1 victory over the Alaska Aces Saturday afternoon at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.

After a scoreless first period, O'Donoghue opened the second period with his third goal of the season at 7:15 on the power play. That goal was followed by Taylor Doherty's short-handed tally at 14:03.

Spencer Pommell's even-strength goal at 17:59 gave the Rush a 3-0 cushion before Ben Lake finally got the Aces on the board with a snappy wrister over Battachio's shoulder with only 14 seconds to go in the period.

The Aces could get no closer. Winston Day Chief tapped in a rebound of a Sean Cohen shot to make it 4-1 in the third at 11:46, then O'Donoghue finished the scoring with his second goal of the game at 13:13.

Alaska goaltender Steven Summerhays took the loss, finishing with 31 saves. Battachio made 32 saves for the win.

The two teams split the two-game series...Alaska winning Friday 4-1.

The Aces return home to face Utah Wednesday.
