TODAY'S MATCHUP: The Cyclones will look to keep pace in the North Division standings as they welcome in the Kalamazoo Wings for a special President's Day match-up. Cincinnati has earned a point in four straight games and sits just four points back of the Wings. K-Zoo owns a 5-2-1 record against the Cyclones this season, with half of those tilts getting decided in overtime. Today will be the first of three meetings between the two North Division rivals this week.
TODAY'S PROMOTION: Meijer Kids Club Game - All members of the Meijer Kids Club will receive a FREE ticket to today's game. Plus, $1 John Morrell Hot Dogs will be available for all fans.
SCOUTING THE WINGS: Like the Cyclones, Kalamazoo has gone on a solid streak of late - going unbeaten in regulation over its last six games (5-0-0-1). With their 5-2 victory over Toledo last night, the Wings now enjoy a four point cushion over the Cyclones and are just four points back of division-leading Wheeling. Kory Karlander ranks fourth in the ECHL with 57 points (22 goals, 35 assists) while Forwards Darryl Lloyd and Andrew Fournier each enter the week on impressive point streaks. Lloyd has earned points in six straight games, while Fournier has a five-game point streak. Goaltender Ryan Nie is tied for the league-lead in wins (21) and holds a 4-1-0 record against the Cyclones this year.
Keeping it Close with K-Zoo: The season series between the Cyclones and Wings have been close in every statistical category. K-Zoo has barely edged Cincinnati in scoring 25-24 while the 'Clones have outshot the Wings 243-238 in eight meetings. Even the special teams have been close; Cincinnati has had 36 power play chances while Kalamazoo has had 42.
Shots, Shots, Shots: This year, Cincinnati is allowing an average of 29.10 shots per-game - the third fewest in the ECHL. Only Alaska and Stockton have lower averages. On the other side of the coin, the Cyclones are averaging 39 shots-per-game over their last five contests.
Conference Chaos: The Eastern Conference as a whole, much like the North Division is a hotly contested battle. As of today, just six points separate sixth from tenth place. The top eight teams from the Conference qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Cincinnati is currently in seventh place while Kalamazoo ranks in sixth.
Home Cookin': All three of Cincinnati's victories over Kalamazoo this season have come at U.S. Bank Arena. With their win over Toledo on Friday night, Cincinnati's home record now stands at 12-12-4.
