Thunder make move on division-leading Las Vegas

With a 2-1-1 record last week, the Stockton Thunder are closing in on the top spot in the Pacific Division. The Thunder are 27-16-9 for 63 points, and are just four points behind the division and conference leading Las Vegas Wranglers with 20 games remaining in the regular season.

After opening the week with a pair of hard-fought losses, dropping a 2-1 overtime decision at Ontario on Wednesday and a 3-1 loss to Victoria on Friday, the Thunder came out firing on Saturday scoring the first six goals of the game to take a 6-0 lead into the final period and defeating the Salmon Kings 8-1 in front of 7,549 fans at Stockton Arena. Chris Lawrence (3g-1a) and Jordan Fulton (1g-3a) each had four-point nights for the Thunder while Steve Vanoosten chipped in with three points (1g-2a).

Lawrence continued his torrid pace on Sunday scoring two more goals and adding an assist to help lead the Thunder to a 4-0 win over Victoria. Cameron Brodie (1g-1a), Fraser Clair (1g-1a) and Kelly Czuy (0g-2a) all had two points in the win while Zane Kalemba turned aside all 24 shots he faced to earn his first professional shutout. The rookie out of Princeton University saw action in all four games for Stockton last week, going 2-1-1 with a 1.22 goals-against average and a .951 save percentage.

Clair leads the Thunder this season with 42 points (16g-26a) while his 16 goals are tied for the team lead with Lawrence, who paces the club in plus-minus with a +17 rating. Despite not joining the team until early January, Jarrett Konkle is second on the team with a +17 while ranking third with 14 goals and tied for fifth with 24 points.

Stockton ‚¬â„¢s defense has been solid all season as the Thunder rank second in shots-against per game (27.71) and tied for fifth in goals-against per game (2.87).

The Thunder are second in the ECHL in attendance, averaging 6,316 per game. Stockton led the league in attendance in each of its first four seasons before finishing third last season. The club has averaged over 6,000 fans per game in each of its five seasons in the ECHL.

Stockton has a busy week ahead playing four games in six days. The Thunder host Bakersfield on Tuesday before travelling south to take on the Condors on Friday and Saturday and Ontario on Sunday.

Elmira Jackals

· Justin Donati ranks third in the league with 24 power-play points (5g-19a).

· The Jackals have scored a league-high 68 goals in the second period.

Reading Royals

· The Royals are 11-2-1 in their last 14 games.

· Rookie Ryan Donald is tied for the league lead with three shorthanded assists.

· Reading hosts Trenton on Wednesday, is at Elmira on Saturday and hosts Gwinnett on Sunday.

Trenton Devils

· The Devils equaled a season high on Wednesday with three power-play goals in a 5-4 win at Elmira

· Ryan Ginand is third in the ECHL in scoring with 61 points (23g-38a).

· Trenton is at Reading on Wednesday, hosts Gwinnett on Friday and Saturday and is at Elmira on Sunday.

North Division

Cincinnati Cyclones

· Casey Pierro-Zabotel ranks third in the league in plus-minus with a +19.

· Cincinnati is 12-4-9 in one-goal games.

· The Cyclones host Kalamazoo on Monday and Wednesday and Greenville on Friday before travelling to Kalamazoo on Saturday.

Kalamazoo Wings

· The K-Wings are unbeaten in a season-high six consecutive games (5-0-1).

· Andrew Fournier leads the team with six game-winning goals.

· Kalamazoo is at Cincinnati on Monday and Wednesday, hosts Toledo on Friday and Cincinnati on Saturday and is at Toledo on Sunday.

Toledo Walleye

· Willie Coetzee has four points (2g-2a) in his last five games.

· Toledo is 3-0-1 in shootouts this season.

· The Walleye host Wheeling on Wednesday, are at Kalamazoo on Friday and host Greenville on Saturday and Kalamazoo on Sunday.

Wheeling Nailers

· Patrick Killeen is tied for the league lead with three shutouts.

· The Nailers are third in the league on the power play at 20.0 percent (50-for-250).

· Wheeling is at Toledo on Wednesday, at Elmira on Friday and hosts Greenville on Sunday.

South Division

Florida Everblades

· The Everblades are first in the league on the penalty kill at 86.4 percent (228-for-264).

· Francis Lemieux leads the league with 72 points (28g-44a).

· The Everblades travel to South Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.

Greenville Road Warriors

· Connor Shields leads the team, and is sixth in the league, at +18.

· The Road Warriors are 23-1-1 when leading after two periods.

· Greenville hosts Gwinnett on Tuesday and plays at Cincinnati on Friday, at Toledo on Saturday and at Wheeling on Sunday.

Gwinnett Gladiators

· Gwinnett is 16-0-0 when leading after two periods.

· Pat Galivan has recorded points in 11 of his last 16 games (6g-16a).

· The Gladiators play at Greenville on Tuesday, at Trenton on Friday and Saturday and at Reading on Sunday.

South Carolina Stingrays

· Rob Ricci is on a four game point streak (2g-3a).

· Nate Kiser needs 12 penalty minutes to set a new all-time team record.

· South Carolina hosts Florida on Saturday and Sunday.

Mountain Division

Alaska Aces

· The Aces are on a season-high five-game road win streak.

· Wes Goldie ranks second in the league with 30 goals.

· Alaska hosts Las Vegas on Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Idaho Steelheads

· Idaho is first with two shorthanded goals against.

· The Steelheads rank first on the power play at a 24.4 percent (61-for-250).

· Idaho is at Ontario on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Utah Grizzlies

· Matt Clarke is fourth among ECHL defensemen with 117 shots.

· Utah is tied for the league lead with six shorthanded goals on the road.

· The Grizzlies are Victoria on Friday and Saturday.

Victoria Salmon Kings

· The Salmon Kings are 7-for-24 (29.2 percent) on the power play over the last five games.

· Kiel McLeod recorded nine points in his last seven games (3g- 6a).

· Victoria hosts Utah on Friday and Saturday.

Pacific Division

Bakersfield Condors

· The Condors had a season-high 54 shots on goal on Friday against Ontario.

· Coach Marty Raymond won his 250th game with the Condors on Saturday.

Las Vegas Wranglers

· Las Vegas is first on the penalty kill at home at 88.1 percent (89-of-101).
