Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman Louis Liotti ["lee AH tee"] has been loaned to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. In transactions previously completed, the Royals (i) acquired goaltender Bobby Jarosz ["jah ROZE"] from the South Carolina Stingrays for future considerations; (ii) released goaltender Shane Davis from his ECHL contract; (iii) received forward Ryan Cruthers from the Hershey Bears of the AHL; and (iv) placed forward Vladimir Nikiforov on the 3-Day Injured Reserve.
This is the first trip to the AHL this season for Liotti, a second year pro from Westbury, New York. In fifty games with the Royals, Liotti has thirteen points (0g-13a) and twenty-two penalty minutes, while playing to a plus-16 (+16). Liotti played ten AHL games with the Worcester Sharks last season. Jarosz (6'0/187) (23), a first year pro from Crystal Lake, Illinois, began the season with Arizona SunDogs of the Central Hockey League, where he went 1-4-0 with a 4.37 goals against average and a .860 save percentage. He was recently signed by South Carolina but did not appear in any game action for them. He played one ECHL game last season, a 4-1 win for the Wheeling Nailers over the Cincinnati Cyclones on April 3, 2010, after the completion of his senior season at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, Jarosz was a member of the 2007 NCAA National Championship team. He served as the Royals back-up goaltender in the games played this past Saturday and Sunday. Davis, who hails from Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania, has twice served as the Royals, Emergency Back-Up Goaltender and was signed to an ECHL contract on February 17. He has not appeared in any game action for Reading this season. Cruthers, a third year pro from Farmingdale, New York, was loaned to Hershey last Monday (February 14). He played two games with the Bears without registering any points or penalty minutes. In four stints with three teams in the AHL this year, Cruthers has registered four points (3g-1a) and eleven penalty minutes in fifteen total games. He was returned to Reading on Saturday and played in the Royals' 3-1 win over Wheeling that night. He also scored a goal and picked up an assist in Sunday's 5-2 win for Reading over Elmira. In thirty-four games with the Royals, he has thirty-seven points (18g-19a) and thirty-two penalty minutes. Nikiforov has played in thirteen games for Reading this year (0g-1a).
The Royals take on the Trenton Devils on Wednesday (February 23, 2011 @ 7:05) at the Sovereign Center, when the team will host the "Royals Wings Fest," which will feature an intermission wings eating contest.
