Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch edged the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 3-2, tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
The Crunch have built a four-game winning streak and improve to 17-13-2-3 on the season. Alex Barre-Boulet put the Crunch on the board with his 10th goal of the season to tie the franchise record for points (241), while Daniel Walcott potted his eighth to set a new career-high in points (20). Crunch scoring was rounded out with Gabriel Dumont's ninth goal of the year.
Crunch goaltender Hugo Alnefelt picked up his sixth straight win turning aside 26-of-28 shots. Filip Lindberg stopped 25-of-28 in net for the Penguins.
Syracuse was unable to convert on their one power play opportunity, while the penalty kill went a perfect 3-for-3.
After a scoreless first period, the Crunch broke the stalemate 2:27 into the middle frame. Barre-Boulet skated the puck into the zone and scored from the top of the right circle. Halfway through the period, the Penguins tied the game. Alnefelt made the initial save, but the rebound came out for Drake Caggiula to knot the score.
The Crunch regained their lead with just 39 seconds remaining in the second period. Gage Goncalves grabbed the puck in the top of the right circle and threw it towards the net for Dumont to redirect in.
Syracuse built on their lead 12:28 into the third period. Goncalves circled around the back of the net and centered the puck for Walcott to score. Alexander Nylander pulled Wilkes-Barre/Scranton back within one with 1:14 remaining in the game, but Syracuse held on to their lead and the win.
The Crunch travel to face the Utica Comets on Friday.
