Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars let a lead slip away in the ninth inning Wednesday night, as they blew a 5-3 advantage and fell, 6-5, against the Beloit Snappers at Elfstrom Stadium. The loss snapped the Cougars' winning streak at four and put them at 3-1 so far on their nine-game homestand.
Max Stassi gave the Cougars an early lead with a second-inning homer, and Kent Walton's RBI double in the third put the Cougars ahead, 2-1. After Beloit managed two runs in the sixth against starter Rob Gilliam, the Cougars rallied for three of their own in the bottom half. Franklin Hernandez, Tyreace House and Myrio Richard each drove in a run to make it 5-3. That surge put Gilliam in line for a win. The right-hander gave up three runs on four hits over six innings in an eventual no-decision.
After Josh Lansford tossed two scoreless innings in relief, Hector Garcia (0-1) struggled in the ninth and blew the save. He gave up three runs on two hits and walked three in the loss. Steve Blevins notched his second save, and Edgar Ibarra (1-1) picked up the win for Beloit.
The Cougars (4-3) and Snappers (3-4) continue the three-game set Thursday night at 6 CT. Dan Straily (1-0, 3.60) will face Miguel Munoz (0-0, 1.80). 5:45 PM (CDT): Pre-Game Show, 6:00: First Pitch on WBIG 1280-AM.
