Dragons Lose in 12 Innings in Fort Wayne, 6-5

Fort Wayne, Indiana-Everett Williams lined a single to center field to drive in Jeudy Valdez from second base with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning as Fort Wayne TinCaps came from behind to defeat the Dayton Dragons 6-5 in the first game of a three-game series. The loss dropped the Dragons to 5-2 on the season. Fort Wayne improved to 4-3.

Fort Wayne scored two runs against Dayton reliever Doug Salinas (1-1) in the bottom of the 12th after the Dragons had scored once in the top of the inning to break a 4-4 tie.

Dayton's Chris Richburg belted a grand slam home run in the seventh inning to give Dayton a brief 4-3 lead. It was Richburg's first homer of the year.

The Dragons finished with eight hits. Didi Gregorius went 3 for 6 to lead the way. Henry Rodriguez had one hit in six at-bats to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Dayton starting pitcher Pedro Villarreal went the first six innings, allowing four hits and three runs with two walks and four strikeouts. He became the first Dragons starter this season to pitch six innings.

Dayton meets Fort Wayne again Thursday in the second game of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. Brian Pearl (0-0, 1.93) will make his second start for Dayton. Mike Watt (0-0, 1.50) will start for Fort Wayne. The next home game is Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field against South Bend.
