
River Bandits complete sweep of Kernels, 2-1

Davenport, IA - Devin Shepherd singled with two outs and runners at first and third in the bottom of the ninth to give the Quad Cities River Bandits a 2-1 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels and a sweep of their three game series. All three games in this series were decided by one run.
The Kernels were held to just four hits as Mike Trout went 2-3 with a run scored and stolen base and Jean Segura was 1-4 with an RBI. Mike Long went 1-4 for the Kernels fourth hit. Kernels starter Garrett Richards allowed a run on six hits, walked three and struck out five over six innings and David Carpenter (0-2) was tagged with the loss.
Quad Cities relievers Scott Schneider and LaCurtis Mayes (1-0) combined to allow the Kernels to one hit over six innings with seven strikeouts. Mayes picked up the win as starter Deryk Hooker allowed a run on three hits and struck out five over three innings. Jason Stidham went 3-3 with a double and Shepherd was 2-4 with 2 RBI.
The loss is the third in a row for the Kernels and drops their overall record to 2-4. Quad Cities improves to 5-1.
The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, April 14 and open a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs. It's the first Mix 96.5/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday where a lucky Kernels fan could win $10,000 if the Kernels perform a particular feat in an inning such as hit for the cycle as a team or the pitcher strikes out the side on nine pitches. Game time is 6:35 pm with the gates opening at 5:30 pm.
Tickets for the upcoming home stand are available on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The current home stand continues through Friday, April 16.
