LANSING, Mich. - The Lake County Captains (7-0) pounded out 14 hits for a 7-3 victory on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, spoiling the Lansing Lugnuts' (3-4) 15th home opener.
Bo Greenwell and Greg Folgia each collected three base hits while Ben Carlson and Delvi Cid scored a pair of runs, as the Captains seized the lead from the very first inning and never looked back.
Lake County starter Joe Gardner (1-0) earned the win with five innings of two-hit, two-run work, striking out seven.
Lansing starting pitcher Matt Fields (0-1) shouldered the loss, battered for 10 hits and five runs (two earned) in four innings.
Right fielder Brad Glenn went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Lansing in the loss, unassisted by an offense that received the benefit of six walks and three errors but went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
On Thursday at 7:05 p.m., the Lugnuts play their first Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday of the season, featuring $2 beer and pop specials and a free live post-game concert. Right-hander Dave Sever will start for Lansing against right-hander Danny Salazar for Lake County.
