Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Eric Fornataro set the tone on the mound for the River Bandits Wednesday night in the series opener with the Clinton LumberKings as the Bandits took the series opener 4-2 for their fifth straight win.
The Bandits took an early lead plating two runs in the first inning off LumberKings starter Anthony Vasquez. Niko Vasquez drove home the first run on a sacrifice fly which plated D'Marcus Ingram. Matt Adams followed with an RBI groundout scoring Jason Stidham from third.
Ingram singled home Ivan Castro in the seventh to put Quad Cities up 3-0 which proved to be all they would need. An insurance run was added in the ninth giving the Bandits a 4-0 lead before the LumberKings answered in the bottom of the ninth with a pair of runs charged to Chris Corrigan.
Fornataro (1-1) had the longest start by a Bandit through the early part of the season going seven innings to earn the win while allowing just two hits, both in the first. He added three strikeouts and walked only one to claim his first win of the season. Jesse Simpson (2) pitched out of trouble in the ninth to pick up his second save of the season. Clinton's Vasquez (0-1) allowed two runs on four hits to get tagged with the loss. Despite the loss he was still able to fan six in five and two-thirds innings.
Ingram and Stidham led the way offensively for the Bandits, each claiming a pair of hits and scoring a run. Vasquez singled in the third inning to snap an 0-for-14 to begin the season and he added an RBI.
The Bandits and LumberKings are back in action Thursday night at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton, IA. Righty Jorge Rondon (0-0) will get the nod for Quad Cities opposing fellow right hander Tyler Blanford (0-0). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
