Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - After mustering just two hits over the first eight innings, the Clinton LumberKings scored twice in the bottom of the ninth but still fell short in a 4-2 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Wednesday night at Alliant Energy Field.

Trailing 4-0 entering the ninth, Gabriel Noriega sounded a warning shot with a double off the right-field fence. Daniel Carroll then drew a walk to set the table, and Nick Franklin and Vinnie Catricala followed with RBI singles to drive both in. Catricala's liner to left extended his hitting streak to seven games and made it a 4-2 score.

That hit ended the night of reliever Christopher Corrigan (H, 1). Closer Jesse Simpson was brought on with the tying runs aboard and nobody out and was able to put down the rally, getting Dennis Raben, Kalian Sams and James Jones out to end the game.

The Bandits built a 2-0 lead in the first inning against left-hander Anthony Vasquez (L, 0-1). D'Marcus Ingram and Jason Stidham both singled and advanced on a Vasquez error. Both would score as Niko Vasquez lifted a sacrifice fly to right and Matt Adams grounded out to second.

Quad Cities made it 3-0 a seventh-inning single by Ingram. Two Clinton errors in the ninth plated another run of insurance, making it a 4-0 deficit.

Right-hander Eric Fornataro (W, 1-1) yielded only a pair of first-inning singles over 7.0 scoreless innings.

Ingram (2-for-4) and Stidham (2-for-5) each had multi-hit efforts for the Bandits. Franklin went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the LumberKings.

The LumberKings (4-3) continue the series against the Quad Cities River Bandits (6-1) tomorrow night at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Right-hander Tyler Blandford (0-0, 4.050) will make his second start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or www.lumberkings.com.
