March 26, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
Long Beach, Calif. â Shane Bendera stopped 29 shots and three different players scored for the Bakersfield Condors as they defeated the Long Beach Ice Dogs 3-2 in front of 3,173 fans at the Long Beach Arena on Friday night.
Quinn Fair took the first shot of the game just 36 seconds in, and his blast found its way past Long Beach G T.J. Aceti for the lead. Andrew Ianiero picked up the lone assist, extending his point and assist streak to eight games. Jason Jackman made it 2-0 later in the period, banging in his fifth of the year on a centering feed from Paul Willett, who returned to the lineup after missing nine straight games to a shoulder injury.
Johan Astrom extended the lead to 3-0 in the second frame. His penalty shot tally gave him 26 on the season. It's the second penalty shot goal of the year for the Condors. The Ice Dogs got on the board with a power play goal early in the middle frame. Trevor Read scored to make it 3-1, but that ended the scoring in the second frame. The penalties picked up after that, with a little nastiness leading to 29 minutes of infractions on nine penalties and six combined power plays.
Long Beach made a game of it in the third, scoring with just 4:31 remaining in the contest to cut the Condors lead to one. But Bendera stood his ground, finishing the night stopping 29 of 31 and picking up his team-leading 12th win of the year. The Condors finish the season series with Long Beach 5-4-2.
