Condors Fall to San Diego 8-1
December 17, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
SAN DIEGO, Calif., -Steve Hildenbrand of the San Diego Gulls recorded a hat trick as the Bakersfield Condors fell 8-1 in front of 4,839 fans at the iPayOne Center.
San Diego opened scoring early on the power play as Cody McLeod converted a rebound on a Steve Hildenbrand shot that bounced heavily off the back boards. After stopping shots on both sides of the net Munce was caught too far off the right post as McLeod buried the puck to put the Gulls up 1-0 just 2:32 into the game.
The onslaught would continue as San Diego tacked on three more goals in the first period. Chet Ferreira converted a turnover into a breakaway for Jesse Bennefield, who beat Munce low on the right side to make it 2-0 San Diego. The Gulls lead would expand to 3-0 on a McLeod pass to Hildenbrand, who connected on a one-timer at the top of the crease. Hildenbrand would add a late period power play goal to make it 4-0 heading into the first intermission.
Shortly after the Gulls extended their lead to 5-0 on Nikita Korovkin's goal from Hildenbrand, Kevin St. Jacques put the Condors on the board, short-tapping a one-timer on the right side of the crease from Sean Venedam and Scott Basiuk. St. Jacques' power play goal cut the San Diego lead to 5-1 with 13:48 left in the second period.
The third period brought much of the same San Diego flash seen in the first 20 minutes, as Hildenbrand, Bennefield, and Alex Kim all scored in the span of three minutes as the Gulls closed out the 8-1 victory over Bakersfield.
Tyler Weiman picked up the victory, stopping 36 of the Condors' 37 shots. Ryan Munce earned the loss, stopping 13 shots on 18 San Diego attempts before Ryan Cyr entered in relief.
