Titans Rally To Beat Bombers In Shootout

Trenton, NJ - The Dayton Bombers dropped a 4-3 shootout decision to the Trenton Titans in front of 4,020 at Sovereign Bank Arena Saturday night. The Bombers now have off until December 26th.

The only goal in the first period was also first goal of the season for Jim Henkel, who gave the Titans a 1-0 lead at 10:49. Henkel took a pass out of the corner from Scott Bertoli and beat Bombers goaltender Mike Ayers with a backhand shot to open the scoring.

The Bombers tied the game, 1-1, when Matt Herneisen buried a rebound past Titans netminder Dustin Traylin at 5:13 of the second period. Then, rookie defenseman Mark flood ripped a slapshot through a maze of players in front of the Trenton goal to give Dayton a 2-1 lead at 18:46 of period two.

Ned Havern tied the game, 2-2, at the 7:02 mark of the third period. But just 16 seconds later, Marco Caprara gave Dayton a 3-2 lead with his third goal of the season at 8:14. Scott Bertoli forced overtime when he tied the game, 3-3, with just 47 seconds remaining.

The game went into the shootout when Matt Maglione ended it in the eighth round. The Bombers are 0-6-1 in their last 7 games.

The Bombers are off until Monday, December 26th when they travel to Wesbanco Arena in West Virginia to face the Wheeling Nailers.
