Augusta Lynx News Release

Despite a goal and two assists from both Joel Stepp and Nicolas Corbeil, the Augusta Lynx couldn't outscore the Charlotte Checkers in a 6-5 loss at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center on Saturday night.

Kenton Smith gave Charlotte (13-9-1) the early lead, but Augusta (11-13-2) came back to grab a 2-1 lead at intermission on goals by Lee Jacobson and Corbeil.

Eric Lundberg registered a shorthanded goal from Stepp and Corbeil at 4:10 to make it 3-1 in the second period. Charlotte battled back, however, scoring twice to forge a 3-3 tie before Dan Sullivan scored a power play goal at 15:30 from Martin Lapointe and BJ Gaustad. For Lapointe, it was his second assist of the night and 160th point as a Lynx, tying him for third all-time in team scoring with Scott Morrow.

Dusty Jamieson would reply for the Checkers just 2:01 later and send the teams to the locker rooms tied at 4-4 through 40 minutes of play.

In the third Charlotte would take control of the game and not relinquish it, scoring at 4:01 to chase Mike Wall from the contest with 21 saves on 26 shots. Jake Ortmayer welcomed Jason Wolfe to the game with the Checkers' final goal of the evening at 12:53 for a 6-4 advantage.

Phil Cole sent a feed through center that sent Stepp in on a breakaway, beating Chris Holt on the blocker side for a 6-5 final.

Augusta finished the game 1-for-7 on the power play while Charlotte went 1-for-6 in the contest.

The Lynx are back in action this Tuesday night, hosting the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 pm.
