San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - Steve Hildenbrand scored his first career hat trick, and Tyler Weiman stopped 36 shots, as the San Diego Gulls pummeled the visiting Bakersfield Condors 8-1 Saturday night before 4,839 at the ipayOne Center.

The Gulls (11-9-4) tallied a season-best eight goals to improve to 4-0-0 against Bakersfield (9-8-4) this year. In the process, they remain in third place in the Pacific Division with 26 points, two behind second-place Long Beach. The Condors, meanwhile, still sit in fourth in the Pacific with 22 points after its three-match winning streak came to an end.

Hildenbrand's hat trick marked the first for San Diego since Chris Lynch did it on April 9 last season. Hildenbrand also added a pair of assists for his first-ever five-point game.

Jesse Bennefield contributed two scores and two assists, while Alex Kim scored once and tallied two helpers. For the game, six Gulls finished with at least two points.

For the second straight game against the Condors, San Diego jumped out early en route to a big win. On Nov. 18, the Gulls white-washed Bakersfield 7-0 at home, and Saturday, they seven-upped them again.

San Diego notched the initial five scores of the match, including four in the opening period, two by Hildenbrand. The forward's third tally came with 14:29 remaining in the game and set off a trio of Gulls goals over a two-minute span.

Weiman's lone blemish came at the 6:12 mark of the second frame, when the goaltender gave up his only score of the game. His 36 saves set a new career best for the 21-year-old, who improved to 5-8-2 this year.

The Gulls led 5-1 entering the third period and never looked back.

The victory sends San Diego into its nine-day holiday break, as the team won't play again until Tuesday, Dec. 27.
