Bakersfield Condors News Release
San Diego, Calif. â R.J. Enga scored twice on the power play and Trevor Koenig turned aside 39 shots as San Diego defeated the Condors 2-0 on Friday night at the San Diego Sports Arena.
The first period was scoreless in a strong defensive battle for much of the way. A late power play for San Diego led to the first goal of the contest. R.J. Enga tipped home a slap shot from Kevin Grant for the 1-0 lead with just 1:10 remaining in the opening frame. The Gulls led in shots 11-8 for the period, and each team had just one penalty whistled against them.
Another power play for the Gulls in the second period led to a 2-0 San Diego lead. Enga lifted home a rebound off the end boards for his second of the night and 15th goal of the season. Trevor Koenig had a strong middle frame for the Gulls as well, stopping 18 shots on goal, including a point-blank save on Christian Skoryna with just over two minutes left in the period. The score remained 2-0 Gulls through 40.
The third period featured more of Koenig, as he stopped 13 more shots to record his league-leading sixth shutout of the season. The Condors held San Diego to just six third period shots, while leading in the game 39-27 overall. The Gulls won their 11th in a row and knocked the Condors out of second place in the WCHL standings. Bakersfield is now winless in four straight on the road.
The Condors return home on Friday, January 10th, when they host the Fresno Falcons at 7:00pm. On that night, the first 2,000 children 12 and under will receive a Condors three-ring notebook, sponsored by Spanish Radio Group and American Business Machines.
