Flichel Named Player of the Week

BOISE, Idaho - Marty Flichel earns Player of the Week honors from the West Coast Hockey League for the week ending December 29th, 2002. He put up three goals and three assists in last week's three-game series in Anchorage. Flichel's goal in the Saturday, December 28th game was also credited as the game-winner in the Steelheads' 6-3 victory over the Aces.

In his first season with Idaho, Flichel leads the WCHL in goals (17), shots (123) and power play goals (10). The 26 year-old from Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan is only 5-11 and 185-pounds, but is a solid force on the ice, ranking fifth in the league with 35 points. Prior to joining the Steelheads, Flichel spent the 2001-02 season in Tacoma and the 1997-99 seasons with Michigan of the IHL.

The Steelheads take on the defending Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons tonight at the Bank of America Centre at 7:00 p.m. Idaho leads the West Coast Hockey League in points this season with 47, and are ahead of the fourth place Falcons by 20 points. Head-to-head the Steelheads are 2-2-1 this season, and have an all-time record of 22-19-4 against Fresno.

The two teams will play again tomorrow night.
