Cincinnati's Cardarelli Named Sher-Wood East Coast Hockey League Player of the Month for December

PRINCETON, N.J. – Joe Cardarelli of the Cincinnati Cyclones is the Sher-Wood East Coast Hockey League Player of the Month for December.

The 6-0 and 205-pound Cardarelli has a 13-game scoring streak that is the ECHL's longest active scoring streak and tied for the longest scoring streak in the ECHL in 2002-03. During the streak, Cardarelli has tallied 16 goals, including eight power-play goals and one game-winning goal, and has scored 26 points. He has five multiple-goal games and nine multiple-point games during the streak, and scored a point in all 12 of the Cyclones games, leading the ECHL with 16 goals, eight power-play goals and 25 points in the month.

Cardarelli scored three goals in an 8-2 win over Johnstown on December 4, the first hat trick scored by the Cyclones since returning to Cincinnati in 2001-02. He registered his second hat trick of the season and a season-high four points in a 13-2 win against Reading on December 27 and became the fourth ECHL player to record two hat tricks in 2002-03 joining Columbia's Rejean Stringer, Richmond's David Brosseau, and Greensboro's Jay Murphy.

The 25-year-old Cardarelli began the 2002-03 season with Manchester in the British Ice Hockey Super League before joining the Cyclones on November 17. In 19 games with Cincinnati, Cardarelli has scored 33 points, including a team-leading 19 goals and nine power-play goals, and he leads the ECHL in shooting percentage with 27.1 percent (19-for-70).

Selected in the eighth round (186th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 1995 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Cardarelli scored 70 points (30g-40a) in 69 regular season games for Florida of the ECHL in 1999-2000 and also played parts of the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons in the ECHL with Chesapeake.
