Kingfish shoot down Ice Pilots, 4-3

Mike Perna made a loud entrance to the Kingfish line up as he tallied the game winner while Niklas Sundberg made 19 saves for the Kingfish in his second start for the ‘Fish as Baton Rouge knocked off Pensacola, 4-3.

Pensacola jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 11:44 mark of the first period of play as Scott Hewson's shot had just enough momentum to slip over the goal line. Kingfish net minder Niklas Sundberg got a piece of the shot but not enough to keep it out of the net. Kevin Cloutier and Chris Minard added the assists on the goal.

The Kingfish dominated the second period as they took a 3-1 lead and out-shot the Ice Pilots in the middle stanza, 16-6.

Marquis Mathieu got things going at the 4:38 mark of the second as he flipped a rebound in the net as Maxime Gingras was out of position after making the initial save. Joe Guenther and Kevin Tucker added the assists on the goal.

Bryan Richardson gave the Kingfish a one-goal lead as he skated though the Pensacola defense and fired a shot past Gingras. Mike Oliveira added his first assists as a Kingfish and Guenther also picked up a helper.

A deflection in front of the net by Richardson gave the Kingfish a two-goal lead after the second period. Richardson got a stick on Mike Perna's shot from the point and deflected the puck past Gingras at the 13:08 mark of the period. Trevor Demmans also picked up an assist on the goal as well.

Pensacola stormed back in the third period as Greg Pankewicz cut the Kingfish lead to one, 1:40 into the period as he fired a shot past Sundberg. Louis Dumont and Gregor Baumgartner added the assists on the goal.

Chris Minard tied the game up at three off a pass from Kevin Cloutier at the 8:53 mark of the period. Trevor Allman also added an assist on the goal.

The Kingfish picked up the win of the stick of newcomer Mike Perna with 7:21 remaining in the final period. A slap shot from the point beat Gingras on the power play in Perna's first game with the Kingfish since being traded from Augusta. Trevor Demmans and Bryan Richardson added the assists on the goal.

The Kingfish went 1-6 on the power play while denying the Ice Pilots a goal in the man advantage in as many chances.
