ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (18-7-8) fell to the Columbia Inferno (19-13-1) 5-2 in front of a crowd of 5,714 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Columbia forward Chris Pittman scored the game winning goal to give Columbia the victory.

The Inferno got on the board on the power play after defenseman Corey Hessler fired a shot from the point past Florida netminder Rob Zepp at the 19:15 mark of the period.

The Everblades struck back and made it 1-1when forward Kevin Brown slipped a backhand along the ice and into the net at the 5:59 mark of the second period. Forwards Marty Johnston and Tom Nelson picked up the assists on Brown's 8th goal of the 2002-03 campaign. The Inferno made it 2-1 on a Matt Ulwelling goal at the 10:35 mark of the period. Columbia leading scorer Rejean Stringer then gave the Inferno a 3-1 lead at the 11:30 mark of the period. Everblades forward Marty Johnston then made it 3-2 after he redirected a Jimmy Verdule shot from the point. However, the Inferno made it 4-2 after Chris Pittman notched a shorthanded goal at the 7:17 mark of the third period. Pittman then added his second goal of the night to seal the 5-2 win for the Inferno at the 16:54 mark of the period.

Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (13-4-5) stopped 30 of 35 shots he faced while Columbia netminder Patrick Couture (12-5-0) stopped 34 of 36 shots. The Everblades were 0 for 7 on the power play while the Inferno were 2 for 5.

Florida remains at home this weekend to battle the Columbia Inferno on Saturday night at 7:30 PM. Saturday night's game will be televised on UPN-8.
