January 6, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors have announced that the team has acquired D Josh Van Dyk and future considerations from the Florida Everblades in exchange for F Matt Marquardt.
"He's a guy who came highly recommended from opposing coaches in the Eastern Conference," said Head Coach Matt O'Dette. "He'll immediately improve our blue line and help us out defensively. His skill is something we need on the back end."
Van Dyk, 25, played in 32 games with Florida, tallying two goals and nine assists for 11 points and was a plus-five (+5). He had been particularly strong as of late with 10 points (2g-8a) in his last 17 games played.
The Woodstock, ON native spent four seasons as a teammate of current Condors C Robby Dee's at the University of Maine. While with Maine, the 6'1", 190 lbs. rookie played in 140 games amassing 44 points (4g-40a). His 140 games played were the most of any Black Bear during his career.
He made his pro debut in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Abbotsford Heat, appearing in one game at the end of the 2010-11 season.
He is expected to arrive in Bakersfield late tonight, but will not be able to play until Saturday's game against Stockton.
Marquardt departs Bakersfield having played in 34 games, totaling 13 goals and six assists for 19 points.
