Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forwards Tyler Brenner, Dale Mitchell and Kenny Ryan have been assigned by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Toronto Marlies to the Royals. In a separate transaction previously completed, goaltender Joe Palmer was placed on the 21-Day Injured Reserve.
This marks the first trip to Reading for Brenner and Ryan. Brenner (6'2/207) (23), a first year pro from Linwood, Ontario, has scored one goal and picked up two assists and four penalty minutes in twenty-one games with the Marlies. Brenner joined the Marlies late in the 2010-11 season after the completion of his third year at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he led the Tigers with twenty-six goals in thirty-seven games. In eight games with Marlies last year, Brenner registered six points (2g-4a) and two penalty minutes. In 2009-10, Brenner earned a selection to the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team as an integral member of the R.I.T. team that shocked the college hockey world with a historic run to the NCAA Frozen Four semi-finals. Brenner, who tied the career record for goals scored at R.I.T. with fifty-five (55g-47a102pts) in 108 games over three seasons, is that all-time leader in game winning goals for the Tigers, as he racked up thirteen GWGs in his collegiate career.
Ryan (6'0/204) (20), a first year pro from Franklin, Michigan, has a goal and nine penalty minutes in thirteen games with the Marlies this year. A second round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2009, Ryan spent two seasons with the United States National Under-18 team before joining the Windsor Spitfires in 2009-10 in the Ontario Hockey League. In his first season with the Spitfires, Ryan registered thirty-five points (14g-21a) and thirty-three points in fifty-two games for a Windsor team that won an OHL championship and a Memorial Cup. Last year, Ryan picked up sixty points (22g-38a) and forty-two penalty minutes in sixty-three games with the Spitfires.
This marks the second trip of the year to Reading for Mitchell. A second year pro from Etobicoke, Ontario, Mitchell was assigned to the Royals on November 19. In ten games with Reading, Mitchell racked up ten points (8g-2a) and six points, playing to a plus three. In his final game with the team prior to being recalled to Toronto on December 17, Mitchell scored a pair of goals-including the game winner-and picked up an assist in a 6-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers. In his most recent stint with the Marlies, Mitchell picked up two penalty minutes in two games.
The Royals return to action tonight (January 6, 2012 @ 8:30 pm eastern time) in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, where the team will take on the Chicago Express. The game night broadcast next Friday will start at 8:00 pm (et) with the Red Robin Gourmet Burger Pre-Game Warm-up Show on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Reading. Streaming audio is available free of charge courtesy of America One through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. As with all Royals' road games this year, Saturday's game in Wheeling will be televised locally in Berks County, Pennsylvania on BCTV courtesy of Boscov's Travel and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.
