Solid Effort Helps Titans Chase Walleye
January 6, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release
TOLEDO. Ohio - The Titans, playing the first of two games in the Midwest on this trip, were looking for a few skaters to step up.
Chase Langeraap, who scored a pair of goals, his fourth and fifth, did just that, as did goalie Dave Caruso, who evened his record at 9-9 as the Titans (12-15-2-3-29) recorded a 5-2 win over the Walleye (13-16-0-1-27) before 5,268 at the Huntingdon Center Friday night.
It was both a sharp and gritty effort for Vince Williams' team, as the Titans jumped to a 3-0 lead, watched the Walleye close to 3-2, then recover to put the game away.
Langeraap's first goal, off a pretty pass from Rob Bordson and an assist from Ryan Hayes, put the Titans ahead 1-0 at 7:32. Hayes then got into the act, with Denny Kearney and Peter Lenes assisting, making it 2-0 at 13:58.
The Titans made it 3-0 on a short-handed goal by Langeraap, on assists from Adam Presizniak and Eric Baier at 7:44 of the second period. Toledo finally dented the scoreboard on its fifth power play of the period, with Kyle Rogers, assisted by Matt Krug and Paul Zanette, closing the gap to 3-1 with 1:59 remaining before the second intermission.
Toledo challenged the Titans when Harrison Reed scored on a blast past Caruso just 53 seconds into the third period, but the veteran goalie stood tall as he has lately, making 38 of 40 saves.
Caruso was rewarded when newcomer Myles Stoesz scored his first Titans goal, assisted by Langeraap, who completed a three-point night. With 2:36 remaining to push the Margin to 4-2. Matt Germain's empty-netter with 1:14 remaining, assisted by Dustin Cameron, put the finishing touches on the win for the Titans, who are 7-6-2-1 on the road.
The night's three Aces were Langeraap, Caruso and Hayes.
After an overnight trip to Kalamazoo, the Titans will face the Wings at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
