Idaho Falls at Home to Ontario

Idaho Steelheads News Release

(Boise, ID) - Tristan King scored a pair of goals against his former teammates Friday night to help the Ontario Reign knock off the Idaho Steelheads, 5-1, in Boise.

King also had an assist, giving him a three point night in front of 4,086 fans at CenturyLink Arena. Defenseman Steven Tarasuk added two assists as well for Ontario (17-12-3).

Idaho's lone goal was a first-period power-play goal from Aaron Lewadniuk on a rebound off a David Fredriksson shot from the right-hand circle. Lewadniuk chipped the rebound past Ontario goaltender Jean-Francois Berube midway through the first frame for his seventh tally of the season as the two teams were tied at a goal apiece after one period.

The Reign came out strong against Idaho (15-15-3) in the second period, outshooting the home team 21-3 in the stanza. Jerry Kuhn stood tall for much of the period, making big save after big save, none bigger than the highlight-reel stop on Derek Couture over halfway through the period. After Kuhn made a save on a shot from the left-hand side, the rebound rolled right to Couture all by himself at the bottom of the right-hand circle. With Kuhn still on the left-hand side of the ice, Couture appeared to have an easy goal, but Kuhn dove from post to post, smothering Couture's attempt.

The Steelheads ran out of answers late in the period. First, Bill Bagron scored his 11th on a scramble in front of Kuhn to give Ontario a 2-1 lead. Then, ninety seconds later, King got free on a breakaway on a nice pass from Tarasuk and was able to lift a backhand over Kuhn to make it 3-1 Reign. Ontario would add two more in the third - including one from Couture, extracting some level of revenge for Kuhn's earlier circus save - to chase Kuhn with just under four minutes to play.

Rookie Thomas Speer entered the game with 3:41 left to go in the contest, making his professional debut, and saved the only shot he faced for Idaho.

Ontario went 2-4 on the power play while Idaho went 1-6. The Reign outshot the Steelheads, 41-26.

Idaho and Ontario meet again Saturday night in the final night of the Steelheads' Boise State jersey auction. The team is auctioning off blue-and-orange "Boise State" themed jerseys to raise money for St. Luke's Mountain State Tumor Institute's Pediatrics unit and St. Luke's Idaho Elks Children's Rehab with silent auction bids accepted through the end of the second intermission Saturday night on the CenturyLink Arena concourse. Tickets are available by calling the CenturyLink Arena box office (208.331.TIXS) or by logging on to www.idahosteelheads.com.
