Jackals Pull off Another Tight Thriller, Defeat Stingrays

Elmira, N.Y. - The Elmira Jackals increased their winning streak to a season-high seven games on Friday night at First Arena, earning another come-from-behind, one-goal victory over the South Carolina Stingrays at First Arena, 3-2. Each of the Jackals' last four wins have come when they have trailed after two periods, and the victory was the club's 13th in a row in a contest decided by one goal.

Johann Kroll drove a puck in from the top of the left circle with the Stingrays on a five-on-three power play at 12:51, putting South Carolina up 1-0 after the opening period.

After a scoreless second period, Dustin Gazley buried a backhand on Elmira's first shot of the third, sending a puck through a scramble past Stingrays netminder Daren Machesney at 4:05 to tie it, 1-1.

Mario Larocque fired home a one-timer from the blue line to put Elmira in front for the first time at 8:55, 2-1, on a power-play goal.

Pierre-Luc O'Brien poked home a loose puck off a scramble in front, tying the game 2-2 at 13:55.

Louie Caporusso finished off a wraparound bid from the end boards by sneaking a puck past Machesney's stick on a backhand attempt at 17:41, giving the Jackals the lead for good, 3-2.

Jackals netminder Timo Pielmeier made 33 saves on 35 shots, improving to 6-5-0-0 in his first start since Dec. 17, the first game of Elmira's current winning streak. Machesney dropped to 5-9-0-0 with 16 saves on 19 attempts.

The seven-game winning streak is the club's third since joining the ECHL in 2007 and is the longest single-season winning streak in Elmira's ECHL history...The Jackals won 10-straight games in the regular season from the end of 2008-2009 through the start of 2009-2010...After losing 5-4 against Reading on Nov. 11 to drop to 1-3 in one-goal contests, Elmira is 13-0 in its last 13 one-goal games and leads the league with 14 one-goal wins...The Jackals are 7-7-0-0 when trailing after two periods...Elmira was 4-21-1-0 when trailing after two in 2010-2011...South Carolina entered the game 10-0-0-0 when leading after one period and 10-0-0-1 when leading after two...The Jackals' seven wins when trailing after two are the most in the ECHL...Elmira is 16-0-0-0 when allowing two goals or less in a game and 21-2-0-0 when allowing four goals or less...The Jackals have won six-straight home games dating back to Nov. 26
