Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - After spotting the Rockford RiverHawks a 3-0 lead, the Schaumburg Boomers rattled off five unanswered runs to earn a 5-4 victory and a series sweep Monday afternoon.
Trailing 3-0, the Boomers (23-13) scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the sixth to improve to 17-4 at home. Catcher Mike Valadez extended his hitting streak to six games with a double that drove in Chad Mozingo and Nick Kuroczko and made it a 3-2 game. In the next inning, Mozingo, who finished 2-4 with a walk and two runs scored, singled to drive in Pfister to tie the score. The Boomers took the lead for good on a Kuroczko RBI-single and the fifth run scored when Valadez drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Schaumburg got six solid innings from rookie Matt Kuna, who earned his first professional win. The 6'3" right-hander allowed three runs and seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in his first pro start. RHP Joe Parsons struck out three RiverHawks over his 1.2 innings out of the bullpen and Adam Tollefson finished off the eighth by striking out the only batter he faced. Once again it was closer Patrick Mincey preserving the victory for the Boomers as the righty struck out three batters in the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.
After an off day Tuesday, the Boomers travel to Normal, Ill. to take on the CornBelters in three-game series before returning to beautiful Boomers Stadium Saturday.
