Boomers rally, 5-4, to complete sweep

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers rallied for three sixth-inning runs and finished a three-game series sweep of the Rockford RiverHawks with a 5-4 win on Monday.

The Boomers batted around in the sixth inning and took a 5-3 lead en route to their second comeback win of the series. Chad Mozingo chased Rockford starter Cody Hallahan (1-4) with a game-tying single. Nick Kuroczko singled in the go-ahead run off reliever Kyle Schepel and Schepel walked Mike Valadez with the bases loaded.

Rockford had an early 3-0 lead on Jet Butler's two-run homer in the first inning and Evan Button's RBI double in the fourth.

Schaumburg starter Matt Kuna (1-0) gave up seven hits over six innings and earned his first professional win. Pat Mincey struck out three in the ninth and earned his seventh save.

The RiverHawks are home to play Evansville at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday. GFS Marketplace and Village Hearth sponsor 50 Cent Hot Dog Night.
