London Rippers News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MICHIGAN - A historic night for Beach Bums' DH, Chase Burch led Traverse City (24-12) to a 4-1 win and a series sweep over the London Rippers (14-22).
Burch became the Traverse City Beach Bums all-time leader in hits with his RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd to put his team up 1-0.
His second hit was also an RBI one-bagger, putting Traverse City ahead 2-0 in the 5th .
The 245-pound Burch was also involved in a collision at home plate in the bottom of the 7th, but London catcher, Jim Vahalik, stood his ground and held on to the ball, retiring Burch and ending the inning.
The London offense failed to get anything going again, scoring only 2 runs and putting up 13 hits in the three game series.
Matt Wright was London's offensive leader tonight, with a triple to open the game and a double to lead off the 6th, but in both instances, he was stranded on that base.
The Rippers' only run came in the top of the 7th, when Vahalik scored on a passed ball, making the game 3-1 Traverse City at that point.
London starter, Matt Schimpf allowed two runs in his 5 innings of work, walking two and striking out three.
Andrew Chilcoat pitched two innings in relief, allowing two runs. Rob Cooper pitched a scoreless 8th inning.
The London Rippers will enjoy an off day tomorrow before setting up another 6-game home stand. The Windy City ThunderBolts arrive Wednesday night for a 6:30pm game.
