Last time out...

The Joliet Slammers fell into an early 5-0 hole and couldn't come all the way back as they dropped Sunday night's game in Crestwood to the Windy City ThunderBolts by a final score of 5-4. The ThunderBolts scored four times in the third inning off Joliet starter Tommy Mendoza. All four runs scored with two outs. Brandon Pearl walked with one away and advanced to second on passed ball. He would score on a two-out RBI single from Mike Torres. Chris Wade singled and Chad Cregar singled in both runners. Jareck West tripled hope Cregar and it was 4-0 Windy City. They tacked on another run in the fourth on a Bob Glover RBI double. The Slammers scored two in the fifth on RBI from Brad Netzel and Jimmy Waters. They got a run in the seventh and eighth innings respectively for in the end fell short by one run. Mendoza suffered the loss while Windy City starter Blayne Weller got the win.

For Starters...

Jim Schult is coming off an excellent outing against the Schaumburg Boomers in his second start as Slammer. He went six innings, giving up only one run while striking out eight as he got a no-decision. Schult is making his 13th appearance of the year for Joliet but only his third start. Schult brings professional experience to the fold as the Eastern Connecticut State alum spent 2011 in the Canadian-American Association with the NYSL Federals. The traveling team struggled but Schult finished the season with 10 starts and his ERA was the best on the team among pitchers with 10 or more starts that season.

During the day...

The Slammers are 2-4 in day games so far in the 2012 season.

Trying to avoid the sweep...

Only the Traverse City Beach Bums have swept the Slammers so far in 2012. But with a loss today the Slammers would get swept by Windy City. It would be the first time they've been swept on the road in 2012.

Playing from behind...

The opposition has scored first in 22 games this season against Joliet. They are 5-17 in those games.

Windy City woes...

Last night's loss dropped the Slammers record against the Windy City ThunderBolts to 1-4 on the season and 5-12 in franchise history.

Nieves means clutch...

Abel Nieves is hitting .478 in 23 AB with runners in scoring position.

Close games...

Eight of the last 11 games the Slammers have played have been decided by two runs or less. The Slammers are 4-4 in those eight games. They are 0-3 in the other three contests. In their most recent series, the Slammers took two of three from the Schaumburg Boomers, all three of the games were decided by one run.

Mandelblatt up and down...

Zach Mandelblatt leads the Slammers in HR with 4 and RBI with 20. But he is last on the team in batting average as he's only hitting .196 on the season

Give me some relief!

In 43.2 IP in May, Joliet's bullpen had an era of 1.88. In 77 IP in June, they have a 5.61 ERA.

Error indicator...

The Slammers are 3-14 in games when they make an error. They are 13-5 in games when they do not.

Out-hit...

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 13-4, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 2-15.
