Joliet Slammers News Release

(Crestwood, IL)- After losing the first two games of the series at Windy City, Joliet's lineup exploded for seven runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-1 victory in Crestwood.

Joliet jumped ahead early with a run in the first inning. Jimmy Waters and Brad Netzel notched singles to open the game, and Waters came around to score on the first of three fielding errors by Windy City third baseman Travis Weaver, taking the 1-0 lead. They pulled further ahead in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Zach Mandelblatt for the insurance run, and Josh Lyon later scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.

The Slammers put the game out of reach in the seventh inning. Joliet quickly loaded the bases and proceeded to draw seven walks, along with an RBI single from Kyle Maunus, to take a ten-run lead.

The Bolts finally put up a run against Joliet starter Jim Schult in the bottom of the inning on a single from Brandon Decker that scored Chad Cregar.

Schult threw a seven-inning gem, allowing one run on four hits while walking one and fanning three. Brian Smith and Amalio Diaz finished the game in relief.

The Slammers head into an off-day on Tuesday for the first time in three weeks before returning to Silver Cross Field on Wednesday for a three-game series with the Southern Illinois Miners. If you can't make it to the game, fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
