River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - River City defeated Normal 4-3, their fourth win in the last five one-run games following a string of six-straight losses to improve to 22-13 on the season.

The CornBelters (13-21) took the lead in the fourth inning after a one-out double from Patrick McKenna and a two-out single from Patrick Trettel scored him from third following a groundout. River City did not wait long to respond, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a homerun from Josh Workman following a leadoff walk to Jeremy Synan to take a 2-1 lead.

Normal scored two unearned runs as River City committed two errors in the fifth inning to surrender the lead at 3-2. Nick Kennedy got some help from the defense as well though with Normal running into three outs on the bases in the first five innings.

Brandon Cunniff pitched a perfect sixth and seventh inning before the Rascals tied the game in the seventh. Curran Redal led off with a single, stole second base, and scored on a Doug Sanders single to left-center with two outs.

Rascals closer Dustin Umberger walked two but struck out two to get out of the eighth before the Rascals took the lead back for good in the bottom half. Charlie Lisk doubled to start the inning before Jason Patton drove him in with a single, his second hit of the afternoon.

Umberger would pitch a perfect ninth to hang on to the win, his fourth of the season.

After a league-wide day off Tuesday, River City begins a three-game road trip Wednesday at Lake Erie with first pitch set for 6:05 CT at All Pro Freight Stadium in the outskirts of the Cleveland metro area.
