Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Colin Moran launched a two-run home run, the first in his MLB rehab assignment, but the Indianapolis Indians fell short of a comeback to the Columbus Clippers on Thursday, 3-2.
The Clippers (9-16) took the early lead in the top of the third inning with an RBI single from Ryan Lavarnway to score Oscar Mercado. With runners on first and third with one out, James Marvel got out of the jam with a 1-6-3 double play.
Columbus tacked on one more in the top of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 2-0, but the lead did not hold long. The Indians (12-13) tied the game with a two-run home run off the bat of Moran following a single by Phillip Evans. The MLB rehabbers combined for two of the Indians five hits.
The Clippers answered in the top of the fifth with the game-winning home run from Andres Gimenez to re-take the lead, 3-2.
James Marvel (0-1) earned his first career Triple-A loss after giving up three runs on four hits through five innings pitched. Kirk McCarty (4-0) took the win with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
The Indians offense was led by Christian Bethancourt who went 2-for-4 and Moran with two RBI.
Indianapolis continues the six-game series vs. Columbus with a Friday night doubleheader at Victory Field. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 5:05 PM ET, with Game 2 starting 30 minutes after its conclusion. The Indians' first firework show of 2021 will follow Game 2. RHP Matt Koch (1-1, 4.40) is set to take the mound for the Clippers in game one and RHP Heath Fillmyer (0-0, 0.00) is set to start game two. The Indians have yet to confirm starting pitchers.
