Bakersfield Condors News Release

Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors Professional Hockey Club announced nearly 1,400 coats where collected as a result of the Project Warm Families Coat Collection at the Condors game on November 21.

People were asked to donate a new or gently used coat in exchange for a $1 ticket to the game that night. Volunteers from KGET-TV 17 and local charities assisted with the collection. The coats will be distributed to those in need throughout the colder winter months.

"It was a tremendous response from the community," said KGET-17 Anchor, Jim Scott. "For it being a week night and the day before Thanksgiving vacation many people answered the call. We are very grateful to the viewers who responded and always answer the call."

The KGET-TV 17, KHTY Mighty 970 and Barber Honda sponsored event is the longest running charity event in team history, dating back to when the team was called the Bakersfield Fog and played in the Convention Center. During its nine-year span under the Condors name, the collection has brought in more than 16,000 coats.

The Condors conclude their six-game homestand Saturday against the Alaska Aces, with game-time set for 7:00pm. It will be the 29 Eyewitness News, KERN 1410 AM and Wells Fargo Bank Teddy Bear Toss. All fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear, or other stuffed animal, to be thrown onto the ice after the Condors score their first goal. The teddy bears will be collected and donated to less-fortunate children through the United Way of Kern County. It will also be a Big Buddies Night, where underprivileged children will be given the opportunity to attend a Condors game for free thanks to local organizations.

On Sunday, the Condors head to Las Vegas to take on the Wranglers for a 5:05pm game. Bakersfield is unbeaten at 3-0-1 on the road this season.

You can catch all Condors games live on KGEO Hot Talk AM1230 with Jake Stevens calling all the action. Most games this season will again be available to view courtesy of B2 Networks.
