Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

The Pensacola Ice Pilots rallied from a 3-0 first period deficit, but fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Augusta Lynx on Friday night at The Hangar.

The Lynx improved their record to 9-7-0-0 for 18 points, while the Ice Pilots fell to 2-9-1-1 for 6 points. Despite the loss, the Ice Pilots extended their point streak to six games 2-2-1-1.

It was the first of four consecutive meetings between the two teams which will battle again tomorrow night 7:05 pm at The Hangar.

Augusta scored one early in the first period, added a second goal in the midway through the stanza and the potted their third with eight seconds remaining. It chased the starter Michael Mole who was replaced by Mike Ayers.

The Ice Pilots rally began at the 33-second mark of the period when Travis Lisabeth scored from Dwayne Hay and Mike Wirll to make it 3-1. Dwayne Hay scored a power play goal at the 12:30 mark on a great pass from newcomer Ed Hill to cut the deficit to one.

In the final 20 minutes, the Ice Pilots kept shooting pucks towards the goal and the hard work would be rewarded when Travis Lisabeth would get his second from Mike Wirll and Brent Henley to tie the contest.

Nothing was settled in overtime and in the shootout both goaltenders were sharp with Aaron Slattengren getting the lone goal his second of the game.

Pensacola out shot Augusta 43-42 and didn't allow the Lynx a power play goal on five opportunities. The Ice Pilots had one power play goal on five chances. Mike Wirll led all shooters with eight shots on goal, while Dan Sullivan had six.
