
Checkers defeated 7-1 by the Everblades

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers were defeated 7-1 by the top-ranked Florida Everblades Friday night in front of 7,133 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Blake Bellefeuille scored the only goal for the Checkers and although he took the loss, Chris Holt stopped 31 shots on goal.
The game got started with a power play goal from Florida's Jonathan Lehun and he was assisted by both Dustin Johner and Chris Lee at 14:54 in the period putting Florida up 1-0.
The second period consisted of three Florida goals which would put them up 4-0 going into the second intermission. The first Florida goal was scored by Vince Bellisimo and giving the assist to Reggie Berg at 2:01. The second of three goals was an even-strength goal from Brad Zancaro assisted again by Berg and as well as Jeremy Swanson at 8:13 in the period. The last second period Florida goal was scored at 18:27 on the power play from Johner who was assisted by Lee and the goalie David Shantz.
The Checkers only goal was scored early in the third period on the power play by Bellefeuille giving him his sixth goal of the season, and the assists were given to both Dusty Jamieson and captain, Kenton Smith at 1:35 in the third period. With the Checkers first goal came the annual Teddy Bear Toss which will be donated to the Presbyterian Hemby Children's Hospital. Following the Checkers goal the Everblades scored three more goals to ice the game at 7-1. The first of three goals was a short-handed goal scored by Brent McDonald who was unassisted. The second of three was scored by Berg who was again assisted by Zancaro at 15:31. Finally, the seventh goal for the Everblades was scored by Johner and the assists were given to both Ernie Hartlieb and Berg at 18:10 in the period.
