Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons won their fourth game in a row as they defeated the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 4-1 on Thursday night at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo.
Buffalo got the scoring started in the bottom of the third when Nathan Lukes made it a 1-0 ballgame with his single to left field that scored Tyler Heineman. This RBI single is good for Lukes' 26th RBI of the season with the Herd.
The Indians knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the fourth as Canaan Smith-Njigba grounded out to second base, allowing Aaron Shackelford to score from third base on the fielder's choice.
Bisons starting pitcher RHP Andrew Bash had himself a solid outing on Thursday night. Putting in 5.1 innings of work, Bash gave up only one run, struck out four batters, and allowed only one walk. This is Bash's longest outing of the season, his second longest being four innings of work, which he has done twice. This was his fifth start of the season and his ninth overall appearance with the team.
The Bisons broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning as Heineman singled to right, scoring Addison Barger from third base, 2-1. Luis De Los Santos came up clutch on the following at-bat as he hit a two-out two RBI triple to the deep right corner of the ballpark, scoring Heineman and Tanner Morris and giving the Bisons a 4-1 lead.
The Herd's pitching staff was excellent in relief on Thursday night. Paul Fry, Zach Pop, and Rowan Wick combined for 3.2 innings of work on the mound and during that span they allowed zero runs against, racked up five strikeouts, and gave up only two hits to the opposing Indians, helping the Bisons capture the win.
Buffalo and Indianapolis will play the fourth game of their six-game set on Friday night with a 7:05 p.m. scheduled first pitch. RHP Zach Thompson gets the nod for the Bisons and RHP Roansy Contreras will be on the bump for the opposing Indians.
