Charlotte Knights News Release
(JACKSONVILLE, FL) -- RHP Nick Nastrini was promoted to Charlotte on Tuesday and made his Triple-A debut on Thursday. Despite tossing six strong innings in his first-ever Triple-A start, the Charlotte Knights dropped game two of the six-game series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp by a score of 2-1 on Thursday night from 121 Financial Ballpark in Jacksonville, FL.
Nastrini (0-1, 3.00) struck out nine batters over six innings and was saddled with the hard-luck loss. He allowed just two runs on just two hits and threw 90 pitches on the evening. It was a solid start for the 23-year-old who was acquired by the Chicago White Sox in a July 28th trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In relief of Nastrini, Charlotte righties Deivi García and Jordan Leasure were also very impressive. Both relievers tossed one inning apiece and did not allow a run. Even more impressive, both relievers fanned three batters each in Thursday's game. In all, three Charlotte pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters on the night.
Charlotte outfielder Víctor Reyes had a solid day at the plate on Thursday. Reyes reached base four times and finished the game 3-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. He scored Charlotte's lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning on a wild pitch from Jacksonville starter Edward Cabrera (3-1, 2.22). Cabrera earned the win after he gave up just one run over five innings. He struck out seven Charlotte batters.
Jacksonville scored both runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Nastrini. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double by Troy Johnston and a sacrifice-fly RBI by Jorge Alfaro.
The Knights will continue the six-game series on Friday with a doubleheader from Jacksonville, FL. The "Voice of the Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. First pitch of game one on Friday is set for 5:05 p.m. from 121 Financial Ballpark.
