CHIEFS DROP DEVILS IN SHOOTOUT, 3-2

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (November 28, 2008) -- A late third period goal by the Johnstown Chiefs forced overtime, though the Trenton Devils were unable to hold off the Chiefs in the shootout as the Chiefs won 3-2 Friday night at Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

Johnstown went on the board first with a goal 3:56 into the contest, as Andrew Sarauer deflected in a pass from Ryan Del Monte.

The Devils tied the game on the power play with 2:10 left in the second period as Jeff Prough banged in a rebound from in front of the net.

Jeremy Akeson put the Devils in the lead 11 seconds into the third period when he stole the puck in the Chiefs zone and fired a wrist shot over the left shoulder of Kris Mayotte.

Trenton to be in control of the game until Chris Poli took a slashing penalty with 2:30 left in regulation. During the penalty kill, goaltender Gerald Coleman was injured in a collision at the crease, putting Charlie Effinger into the game.

The Chiefs pulled their goalie for the extra attacker in the final minute, and after several opportunities, it would be Ryan Del Monte who put in the tying goal with 30 seconds to go.

In the deciding shootout, the two teams traded a pair of goals in the first ten rounds. In the 11th round, Petr Pohl backhanded a puck short side past Effinger to give Johnstown the win.

The Devils return home to play the Florida Everblades on Saturday night, with the puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Fans can listen to the free audio broadcast on www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
