Idaho sweeps weekend trip to California

Bakersfield, CA- The Steelheads extended their winning streak to three games with another win over a California opponent. Tonight, the Steelheads (10-7-2) earned a 4-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (6-9-3).

Bryan McGregor opened the scoring for the Steelheads tonight with a quick wrister after receiving a pass from linemate Mark Bomersback; Marty Flichel also picked up an assist on the goal at 5:46. Dale Reinhardt netted a shorthanded equalizer, making it 1-1, with 5:32 to go in period number one. Reinhardt capitalized on a neutral zone turnover, and beat Rejean Beauchemin top-shelf. After the goal, the game paused for several minutes because of the ‘Teddy Bear Toss' promotion.

When play resumed, Ben Nelson put the Steelheads back in front on the same power play; Gainey and Bomersback picked up assists on the goal at 15:43. Kory Scoran added another power play goal to make it a two-goal Idaho lead at 17:52; Bomersback and McGregor picked up helpers on Scoran's goal. Tylor Michel pulled Bakersfiled to within one near the end of the first period when he scored at 18:10. Chad Painchaud picked up an assist on Michel's first of the season.

The first goal of the second period put the Steelheads ahead by two goals once again, as Ben Nelson netted his second on the power play at 8:40 of the period. The goal was Nelson's ninth, assisted by Gainey and McGregor. Andrew Ianiero scored at 16:22, with assists going to Sean Hurley and Chris Kaufman. After forty minutes, the score was 4-3, in favor of Idaho.

The third period yielded no scoring, as the game ended just as the second period did. Beauchemin, a former Condor, picked up the win to improve to 5-3-2 on the year; he made 20 saves on 23 shots. Yutaka Fukufuji fell to 0-1-0 with the loss, making 19 saves on 23 Idaho shots.
