Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - Manny Pina's first home run of the season put Omaha ahead to stay in the midst of a seven-run eighth inning that lifted Omaha to an improbable 12-9 comeback win over Colorado Springs Tuesday night in the last of a four-game set at Security Service Field. The Storm Chasers return home at 23-16, with a six-game lead over Iowa in the American Conference North, after taking five out of eight in Reno and Colorado Springs.

Paulo Orlando finished 4-for-5 and a triple shy of hitting for the cycle while driving in three and scoring twice to pace an 18-hit attack for the Storm Chasers, who swept the season series from the Sky Sox for the second straight year. Omaha compiled 52 runs on 72 hits during the four games and scored in 22 of the 36 innings.

Ian Stewart and Mike Jacobs belted two-run home runs with two outs to stake the Sky Sox to a 4-0 lead after the first inning for a second straight night. The Chasers cut the lead in half in the second inning on run-producing hits by Lorenzo Cain and Orlando.

Mike Moustakas clubbed a solo home run with two outs in the third to trim the deficit to one before Charlie Blackmon answered in kind in the bottom of the frame. Omaha tied the game briefly in the seventh on Orlando's two-out, two-run home run, his first at the Triple-A level.

Omaha starter Kevin Pucetas and Jessie Chavez combined to surrender four runs in the bottom of the inning that put Colorado Springs back on top at 9-5. Chavez would grab the win despite allowing two runs on a pair of hits while recording just two outs.

The visitors then sent 12 men to the plate in the decisive rally that was ignited by Kila Ka'aihue's three-run, pinch-hit double that drew the Chasers within 9-8. Pina followed with his long ball to put the visitors in the lead for the first time all night. Irving Falu and Clint Robinson singled home runs to complete the onslaught that featured nine hits, including eight in a row at one point, against three different pitchers.

Blaine Hardy worked a scoreless eighth inning and Kanekoa Texeira retired the side in order in the ninth to record his first Triple-A save.

The Storm Chasers will send left-hander Mike Montgomery to the hill against Las Vegas right-hander Scott Richmond when they return to action Thursday night at Werner Park in the opener of a four-game series. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:15 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
