Brandon Belts Grand Slam in Grizzlies Victory

MEMPHIS, TN - The Grizzlies shutout the Redbirds through eight innings en route to a 5-3 win, avoiding a series sweep in front of 9,143 fans at AutoZone Park.

Fresno picked up one run in the first off starter Nick Additon with a sacrifice fly by Brandon Belt. Six innings later, Belt stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded to face reliever Blake King, sending one out of the park for a grand slam. Memphis attempted to rally in the ninth driving in three runs off Casey Daigle to squash the possible shutout.

The Redbirds collected only four hits against Fresno starter Andrew Kown who tossed seven scoreless innings while walking four and striking out two for the win. Additon gave up one run on seven hits across six innings, taking the loss in his first start for the Redbirds.

Memphis and the entire Pacific Coast League will enjoy an off day tomorrow. The Redbirds head to Tacoma on Thursday with first pitch schedule for 9:05p.m. CT. The 'Birds send Lance Lynn to the mound to face Rainier southpaw Luke French.
