Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis rallied by Fresno Monday night at AutoZone Park, breaking up a no-hit and erasing a three-run deficit to win 5-4 in 14 innings and beat the Grizzlies for the third straight day.

The 'Birds struggled against starter Doug Mathis, who dominated through the first six innings allowing no hits and only three base runners on an error, a hit batter and a walk. The no-hit continued against reliever Geno Espineli who threw a 1-2-3 seventh. However, pinch hitter Tony Cruz broke up the no-hit and shutout bid in the eighth to begin the Redbirds rally. With a two-run single by Adron Chambers and a two-run double by Nick Stavinoha Memphis took a 4-3 lead.

Ryan Rohlinger tied it up for the Grizzlies with a shot to left field off Victor Marte's first pitch in the ninth inning. The teams would remain tied until the bottom of the 14th with Felix Romero on the mound for Fresno. With the bases loaded and only one out, Donovan Solano hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Pete Kozma and push the Redbirds past the Grizzlies in a 5-4 victory.

Cory Rauschenberger earned the win, pitching 1.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out one. Starter Brandon Dickson gave up three runs on eight hits across seven innings of work. Felix Romero took the loss, giving up the game-winning run in the 14th inning.

The Redbirds wrap up their homestand tomorrow night against Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. for the Built Ford Tough Business Special. This gives working fans an opportunity to watch the baseball game during their lunch hour, sponsored by Ford. For ticket information call 901.721.6000 or visit memphisredbirds.com.
