Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - Irving Falu delivered the tie-breaking two-run triple in the seventh inning to lift Omaha to a stirring 12-9 come-from-behind win over Colorado Springs Monday night in the third of a four-game set at Security Service Field. Falu finished 5-for-6 with three runs scored while Paulo Orlando collected four hits, scored three times and added an RBI to lead a 19-hit attack for the Storm Chasers, who improved to 22-16 overall and leveled their road record at 11-11.
Johnny Giavotella drove in three runs for the visitors, who have posted 40 runs on 54 hits in taking the first three games of the series. Mike Moustakas and Clint Robinson each went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in during Omaha's seventh straight win over the Sky Sox.
Falu's decisive hit came with two outs and snapped an 8-8 deadlock to put the Chasers ahead for the first time in the game. Giavotella followed with a base hit to plate the Omaha right fielder to make it an 11-8 contest.
Brad Emaus belted his second home run of the night to trim the margin to 11-9 in the home seventh before Greg Holland took over and slammed the door shut on the hosts. The right-hander earned his second save of the season with three shutout frames during which he allowed just one hit and struck out four. Mario Santiago notched his first Triple-A win after yielding a run on two hits over 1 2/3 innings of relief work.
The Sky Sox jumped on starter Jeff Suppan for four runs on six hits in the first inning and added another on a Moustakas throwing error in the second to forge an early 5-0 edge.
Trailing 7-1, Omaha shaved the the deficit to four on run-scoring hits by Lucas May and Orlando in the fourth and crept to within 7-5 in the fifth after Robinson supplied an RBI double and scored on a Kila Ka'aihue base hit.
Emaus hit a leadoff long ball in the bottom of the frame to make it 8-5 before Suppan was removed two batters later. The veteran right-hander was charged with eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits while walking one and fanning five.
Suppan was taken off the hook after the Chasers tallied three times with two outs in the sixth when Moustakas doubled in two runs and scored on a base hit by Robinson to tie the game.
The series concludes Tuesday night with Omaha right-hander Kevin Pucetas taking the hill against Sky Sox left-hander Josh Muecke. Coverage gets underway at 6:45 p.m. and can be heard locally on KOIL AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
