OMAHA, Neb. - Omaha Storm Chasers ace Danny Duffy will be called up to the Major Leagues and start against the Texas Rangers Wednesday evening, the Kansas City Royals announced Tuesday. In addition, lefthander Everett Teaford will join the Royals staff in time for Tuesday's game.

Duffy, a lefthander from Vandenberg Village, Calif., headlined a prospect-laden Storm Chasers rotation through the first month-and-a-half of the 2011 season. He was 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts for the Storm Chasers, including a 2-0, 0.86 mark in four home outings. He posted 43 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 36.0 innings pitched at the Triple-A level. The Chasers were 6-1 in games Duffy started.

The 22-year-old was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week following an April 28 performance in which he allowed just one baserunner over six innings against the Iowa Cubs. In that contest he struck out eight and did not walk a batter, running his home scoreless innings streak to 15.

Duffy, a third-round pick in the 2007 draft, owns a career minor league record of 27-14 with a 2.59 ERA in 344.0 career innings, with 402 strikeouts and 110 walks. He established himself as a top pitching prospect immediately after signing, posting a 1.45 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 37.1 innings as an 18-year-old in rookie ball. His highest ERA over a full season was 2.98 for High-A Wilmington in 2009.

In a transaction announced Monday night, southpaw Everett Teaford will also join the Kansas City club. Teaford, who celebrated his 27th birthday on May 15, went 2-1 with a 3.04 ERA in 10 appearances for the Storm Chasers this season. He allowed 22 baserunners in 26.2 innings, striking out 24 and walking six.

Following the 2010 regular season, Teaford and Duffy helped lead the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to the 2010 Texas League Championship, then pitched for Team USA in the Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament in Puerto Rico. Teaford headlined both staffs, going 14-3 in Double-A and going 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA for Team USA.
