Sky Sox Surrender Early Lead, Lose Third Straight to Storm Chasers 12-9

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped their third straight game to Omaha Storm Chasers 12-9 Monday night in front of 1,837 fans at Security Service Field.

The Sky Sox took a 7-1 lead after three innings, including a four-run first inning highlighted by singles from Charlie Blackmon, Josh Fields and Brad Emaus. In the third, Eliezer Alfonzo delivered a solo home run and Blackmon drove in another run with his second RBI single for the six run advantage.

Omaha refused to roll over as they scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings and three runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take an 11-9 lead after seven innings. An RBI single and double by Clint Robinson and a two-run triple by Irving Falu highlighted the ten-run explosion for the Storm Chasers. They tacked on a final run in the ninth on a Sky Sox error for the final margin of 12-9.

After the third inning, the only runs scored by Sky Sox were on two solo home runs by Brad Emaus, his fourth and fifth home runs of the year. He finished 3-for-5 on the night with three RBI and two runs scored. Eric Young Jr. continued his hot hitting, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored and his 15th steal of the year.

Sox reliever Matt Daley (0-1, 3.77) took the loss allowing three runs on four hits in 0.2 innings of work. The win was picked up by Mario Santiago (1-0, 9.82) who allowed one run on two hits in 1.2 innings.

With the loss, the Sox fall to 16-23 on the year while Omaha improves to 22-16 with the victory.

The Sox will look to salvage the final game of this four game series tomorrow night as Josh Muecke (2-3, 6.29) takes the hill against Kevin Pucetas (3-1,3.13). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM MT.

. With his first inning triple, Young Jr. is now tied for fourth all-time in Sky Sox history with 18 career triples.
