Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Omaha Storm Chasers completed a four-game sweep of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Tuesday night in front of 4,876 fans at Security Service Field.
For the second straight game, the Sky Sox took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on two-run home runs by Ian Stewart and Mike Jacobs. The Storm Chasers clawed back to make it 4-3 in the third on a solo home run by Mike Moustakas. Charlie Blackmon would answer with his team leading eighth home run to make it 5-3 Sky Sox after three innings.
Paulo Orlando would tie the game at five in the seventh with a two-run home run off of reliever Edgmer Escalona. In the bottom half of the inning the Sky Sox would retake the lead on a two out two-run single by Josh Fields and an RBI single by Mike Jacobs to take a 9-5 lead into the eighth. However, the Sox bullpen was unable to hold the lead as three relievers allowed seven runs in the eighth inning. A three-run pinch hit double by Kila Ka'Aihui and a two-run home run by Manny Pina were the critical hits for the Storm Chasers.
For the second consecutive night, reliever Matt Daley (0-2, 6.28) took the loss for the Sky Sox allowing four runs on four hits without recording an out in the eighth inning. Jesse Chavez (2-0, 2.33) picked up the win for Omaha.
Ian Stewart went 2-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored and two RBI in his first game back with the Sky Sox. Starter Josh Muecke had a solid outing allowing three runs on five hits in 6.0 innings.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 16-24 and are now tied with Tacoma for last place in the Pacific North Division. Omaha improves to 23-16 with the victory.
The Sky Sox have an off-day Wednesday before traveling to Texas for a four game set with the Round Rock Express. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM MT on Wednesday.
