Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Storm Chasers relievers Jake Kalish and Andres Machado combined to surrender just three hits in eight excellent innings of work, retiring 14 straight Sounds batters at one point, while shortstop Nicky Lopez and center fielder Erick Mejia collected two hits apiece in Omaha's 4-2 win over Nashville on Wednesday evening at First Tennessee Park.
Kalish (5.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 0 BB, 6 K) earned the win with five solid frames of support, setting down each of the final ten batters he faced. Machado (3.0 IP, H, BB, 2 K) followed Kalish by retiring nine of the 11 batters he faced to notch a three-inning save. Sounds starter Tim Dillard (5.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
Omaha struck in the opening frame, as Lopez scored on 1B Frank Schwindel 's RBI infield single. Mejia would later come across on a force out to extend the advantage to two, however the margin narrowed back to one courtesy of Nashville DH Andy Ibanez 's RBI single to center. Two innings later, Ibanez smashed a game-tying solo homer to left-center to even the contest at 2-2. The Storm Chasers would then grab the lead again in the fifth, taking advantage of a Sounds error to plate two runs.
Lopez (2-4, R, BB) with his two knocks extended his hit streak to eight, during which he owns a .444 average (12-27), adding seven runs, one double and one RBI, along with eight walks, one strikeout, two steals and a .571 on-base percentage. Mejia (2-4, 2 R), meanwhile, has tallied multi-hit efforts in four of his last eight contests.
Omaha's four-game road series in Nashville concludes on Thursday evening, with first pitch set for 6:35pm CT. RHP Heath Fillmyer (0-1, 13.50) is expected to get the start for the Storm Chasers, with the Sounds' starter not yet announced.
Following that contest, Omaha returns home for an eight-game homestand featuring the Iowa Cubs and Round Rock Express on Friday, May 3. First pitch of the series opener versus the I-Cubs is slated for 7:05pm CT.
Tickets for that game and all remaining Storm Chasers home contests can be purchased online at www.omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at (402) 738-5100.
